What are the requirements to get married in Costa Rica?

If the two future of spouses are Costa Ricans, they must meet the following

Requirements:

  •  Two witnesses testify under oath about eligibility for marriage and legal capacity of the parties. 
  • Both man and woman are 18 or older, or have the consent of a parent.
  • Birth Certificate of and marital status certificate issued by the Civil Registry, our staff will obtain these certifications.
  • Copy of the identification document of both spouses and witnesses.
  • Publication of the edict of marriage, it must be published in advance about 15-22 days to the marriage.

Timeframe:
22-45 days.

  • An affidavit of eligibility for marriage, affirming that the person or persons are free and eligible to marry.
